Through the Years

This month I celebrated a milestone birthday, so I thought it would be fun to share some snapshots of myself through the decades. Consider this a “reveal party.” For those of you who don’t know my age, you’ll find out at the end of this post. (No peeking in advance!)

Although there was no date on the back of this photo, I’m guessing that I was probably about a year old. My typically straight hair shows the remnants of baby curls at the bottom. Who knew that this happy little girl was destined to become an electrologist as well as an esthetician?

Here’s a picture of me at 5 years old. It’s no secret that my mother loved bangs. Very often, she cut them slanted and had to continue trimming until they were as straight as she could get them.. .which meant that the bangs usually ended up at the top of my forehead! My nose and cheeks were dotted with numerous tiny freckles. I had so many that my uncle would give up on trying to count them!

In my teenage years, I rebelled against those dreaded bangs and started to wear my hair with a side part. That was probably the only issue that I ever gave my mom a hard time about. I was entering puberty and it was time to take ownership of my own look!

The 90’s…a decade of big hair and big glasses! Although the salon chemicals smelled awful, I really did enjoy having a curly head of hair. It was a nice change for me and the style was so easy to maintain, especially on a humid day! My family and I had a good laugh over this one:

Welcome to the present. While visiting Jones Beach one windy evening this summer, my 89 year old mother requested a selfie (imagine that!) with her daughter and granddaughters. Such a modern granny!

According to my mom, “60 is the new 40!” Not sure about it being the new 40, but with the help of my great skincare products and advanced microcurrent treatments, I believe that 60 is definitely the new 50! (By the way, becoming an esthetician was the best thing I ever did for my skin. More on that in a future blog post.)

For me, birthdays are a time of retrospection. Let me take this opportunity to express my appreciation to all the wonderful women who have entrusted me with their skin and unwanted hairs over the past 30+ years. It has always been my passion to make a difference in people’s lives. I am blessed to have a career that feeds my soul and adds purpose to my life.  xoxo, Lori
