Happy Spring to all!! It is such a joy to witness the rebirth of all things that grow. Nature has it’s very own special time clock. Inherently, the trees begin to bud above us, while crocuses and daffodils pop up through the soil below.
As I look outside my back window, I can see the early beginnings of the leafy hosta plants that border the perimeter of my patio. They are amazingly hardy plants that thrive and proliferate without any special tending. What is really interesting to me, is that the hosta’s in the sun grow so much fuller and faster than those that are in the shade.
It made me think of our skin cells and how they, too, can be encouraged to grow stronger and more resilient with proper nourishment and care.
Sunshine is to plants … as vitamins and antioxidants are to the skin!
Do you want your skin to function at its very best? Would you like to look in the mirror and see a healthy, radiant glow on your face? Here are some suggestions for helping your skin to reach its fullest potential:
- Sunscreen – Even though the plants love the sun … it is NOT good for your face. You need to protect your skin from the damaging UVA and UVB rays. Be sure to use sunscreen every single day of the year!
- Food – Eat 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables. Your choices should include all the colors of the rainbow. Each color contains different vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants that will help to fortify your skin cells. Vary your diet to include a wide range of produce. Avoid saturated and transfats. These are typically found in packaged foods and fried foods. Instead, be sure to include essential fatty acids in your diet as they will help to create well-hydrated, glowing skin.
- Exercise – When you move your body, you help to boost circulation thereby oxygenating your cells and assisting them to move toxins out of your body.
- Topically – Cleanse your face daily with a product designed for your specific skin type. Stay away from aggressive treatments such as peels and lasers! I cannot stress this enough. These cause inflammation in the skin … and inflammation causes accelerated aging! Use advanced skincare products that contain vitamins and antioxidants. These will work to nourish your skin from the outside in.
By taking a combined approach, you can fortify your skin cells from the inside by feeding your body nutritious foods … as well as the outside by topically applying enriched skincare products . Just like the hosta plants pictured above, proper nourishment yields the best results!
